Pannonhalma

Pannonhalma Region

The Winery of the Abbey of Pannonhalma in western Hungary occupies the site first established by Benedictine monks in the year 996. However, it is a far cry from the mediaeval ages. Today, the facilities occupy over 2000 square metres, and feature many of the latest vinification systems. The vineyards total 37 hectares, of which a high proportion are new plantings. The first harvest took place in 2003.

In 1993, Huba Szeremley, the founder of the Winemaster Guild of Hungary, took charge of the family wine business in Badacsony. Over the past decade, he has introduced major improvements in the winery, and extended the vineyards to more than 100 hectares. The company concentrates on the classic grapes - Rieslings, Pinot Gris, Muscat Ottonel, Kékfrankos and Kékoporto. In recent years the winery has achieved a high international reputation winning medals in 'Rieslings du Monde' and 'Muscats du Monde' world championships in France. Wines from First Hungarian Winehouse are exported to sixteen countries.

Established in 1993, the main aim of the company has been to revive the vinicultural traditions of Eger with the most modern technological equipments and methods. Terroir-based wine production was one of the fundamental requirements of the late Tibor Gal's philosophy, continued in tradition by his son Tibor Gal, and since its inception, excellent and competitive wines have been constantly produced. The extensive network of labyrinth shaped cellars continues to expand - the latest addition being a newly-constructed tasting hall for the many visitors the winery receives.

Gróf Degenfeld

Tokaj Region

Gróf Degenfeld, the company named after Count Degenfeld, has 70 hectares of vines located in the favoured Térézia Hill, Mézesmál and Galambis vineyards. In recent years, major reconstruction in the winery has taken place, and now the company has state-of-the-art facilities, and combined with the skills of the winemaker, the wines being produced are of the highest quality. A new development is a much praised prize-winning desert wine named Andante.
